- As a retired teacher, I can say that the best in-service sessions I ever had occurred when I was able to meet with other teachers and discuss strategies. Once I was able to shadow a successful teacher in my field for a whole day.

- The Chicago Prep comment is true to a point. I often use that as an example for success in schools; however, the very fact that the students are in Chicago Prep shows a desire to learn on both the student's and parent's part. This is extremely important.

- People who blame the teacher have no idea what it's like out there in the classroom trying to teach a lesson and watch every single student at the same time. If one watches all the students (and the more there are in the classroom, the more to watch,) the lesson suffers.

- Evolving views does not equate to flip-flop. I grew up in the South, and believe me, my views have been evolving a lot over the years. I prefer to think of it as education. What I was taught by the standards around me as a child (the fifties) have certainly evolved as I became more educated.

- “They tell me back that I should not be judged by clothing I wear, I should be judged by who I am.” I used to teach a class in communications to young teenagers. Over and over again, they tried to tell me that my points on dressing for success in job interviews were wrong.
